The Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery is owned by the City of Moose Jaw but is operated by Moose Jaw Art Museum Incorporated, a non-profit board of Directors which operates at arm’s length from the City of Moose Jaw. The facility’s art and historic collection is owned by the City of Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw Art Museum Inc. is responsible for the operation, management and programming of the facility and for taking care of the city’s art and historic collection.
The facility includes: a visual art gallery, a museum, a learning centre, and a gift shop. The Museum and Art Gallery are connected to the Moose Jaw Public Library.
The Gallery exhibits an engaging range of contemporary and historical art by local, provincial, national, and international artists. Many of the ten to twelve exhibitions shown in the Gallery each year are curated and organized by the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery.
The Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery interprets the authentic history of Moose Jaw and area. Consisting of a wide range of human history artifacts with strong representation of First Nations beadwork, women’s clothing, and clothing-related artifacts from 1880 onward, the Museum’s collection of over 6,000 artifacts embodies a history unique to Moose Jaw.
The Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery’s Education Program provides access to information and expertise in the areas of heritage and visual art. A comprehensive part of the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery’s operations, the Education Program includes programs for school children, the Education Services Gallery, visiting artist programs, art classes for children and adults, and family days.
