Ding in the New Year with Moose Jaw Transit
MOOSE JAW - Moose Jaw Transit and SGI are pleased to partner again to offer free transit for residents on New Year’s Eve with the 27th annual Ding in the New Year. The free bus service will run from 7:30 p.m. on December 31 to 3:15 a.m. on January 1.
“The City is pleased to partner with SGI on this initiative, encouraging transit as a free alternative to driving on New Year’s Eve. We want to do what we can to protect Moose Jaw families from impaired drivers,” said Mayor Fraser Tolmie.
“Last year’s holiday season was tragic; there were 119 impaired driving-related crashes in Saskatchewan leaving 33 people injured and seven dead. These were completely unnecessary and preventable,” said Warren Michelson, MLA for Moose Jaw North, on behalf of Minister responsible for SGI Joe Hargrave. “If you’re going to stay true to any resolutions this year, make it this one – ‘I promise I will never drive when I’m impaired.’ Ding in the New Year with a free bus ride home to spend another year with the ones you love.”
Moose Jaw Transit bus routes have recently been integrated into the Google Maps app so customers can now click on the bus icon in Google Maps, enter their starting and destination addresses and the bus routes will be displayed. Holiday bus service schedules are also posted at www.moosejaw.ca or transit customers can call the Transit department at 306-694-4488.
“Being responsible when getting behind the wheel means being proactive and planning a safe ride home. Impaired driving kills and all alcohol-related collisions can be prevented,” commented Moose Jaw Police Chief Rick Bourassa.
Ding in the New Year is provided by the City of Moose Jaw, SGI, Goldenwest Radio (Mix 103.9FM, Country 100.7FM and 800 CHAB), the Moose Jaw Times Herald and the Moose Jaw Express.
