Google Maps Bus App Now Available in Moose Jaw
MOOSE JAW - Transit customers in Moose Jaw now have access to a new Google Maps feature to help them use the bus system in the City.
The Moose Jaw Transit bus routes have been integrated into the Google Maps app. This means that customers can now click on the bus icon in Google Maps, enter their starting and destination addresses and the bus routes will be displayed.
“We are always striving to find ways to make it easier for our customers to use the bus and we hope this feature will make using the bus more convenient,” commented Mark Sture, the City’s Transit & Fleet Manager.
The City’s IT department did the backend work to make this feature available with Google Maps. A Geographic Information System (GIS) technician compiled route and schedule data and worked with Google Maps to integrate the data into their online app.
“This is just one of the many projects our GIS techs work on to improve citizen’s access to information and services. Our department also oversees a number of public online maps such as the cast iron water main map, election, water advisory and the road closures maps,” stated Wade McKay, Manager of Information Technology. “There is much work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure the correct data is obtained, entered and updated.”
The City hopes that this transportation planning tool now available in Moose Jaw will encourage residents to use the City’s bus service more often.
