MOOSE JAW - The City of Moose Jaw is pleased to announce the completion of upgrades to the Veterans Field of Honour section at the Moose Jaw Cemetery. The project was a collaboration of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Veterans Affairs Canada, and The Last Post Fund with assistance from the City of Moose Jaw. This three year project revitalized the memorial section by having new concrete bases installed to support the veteran monuments and new and refurbished veterans’ monuments installed. The entire area was then landscaped and sodded by Cemetery staff.
Operations Manager of Parks and Recreation, Kelly Mentanko states; “One of the mandates of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is the care and maintenance of Veteran monuments across Canada. The City of Moose Jaw was fortunate to have them commit to and co-ordinate funding from Veterans Affairs Canada and The Last Post Fund over a three year period to refurbish the entire Veterans’ Field of Honor section in the old Moose Jaw Cemetery.”
The City of Moose Jaw’s contribution to the project was to provide local supervision of the work and complete final landscaping of the area. “The work by cemetery and administrative staff on this project is greatly appreciated,” Mentanko added.
The City of Moose Jaw would like to thank the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Veterans Affairs Canada and The Last Post Fund and City staff for their work on this project.
