Multiple Cast Iron Water Main Breaks Experienced
MOOSE JAW - The City of Moose Jaw is experiencing an unusually large number of water main breaks resulting in unplanned water disruptions today. As of 2:00 p.m. today, six (6) water main breaks have been reported to the City’s Engineering department. City crews have completed repairs on two breaks and residents in those areas are now on boil water advisories. See updated water advisory map online.
Two City crews have been mobilized and are working on repairs to the 4 outstanding break sites. It has been confirmed that all breaks are on cast iron mains, estimated to be up to 110 years old.

“Our public works manager is deploying additional resources to address this large number of breaks. Restoring full water service to affected residents is our priority,” commented Josh Mickleborough, Director of Engineering Services. “These breaks are a sign of our aging cast iron infrastructure and stresses the urgency of cast iron water main replacements.”
Today’s breaks affect approximately 200 properties. As repairs are done on each site, local residents are provided with notices to boil water until testing results are satisfactory again.
