The City Clerk/Solicitor Department is responsible for overseeing and administering the municipal government affairs for the City of Moose Jaw. This includes providing services ranging from legal issues to election operations, to record keeping. The City Clerks Department provides an essential role in insuring our Municipal Government operates efficiently.
The City Clerk/Solicitor Department encompasses the following functions:
1. Clerk’s facilitates the decision-making processes of City Council, its standing committees and most of its Council-appointed advisory Committees;
2. Clerks is also the central record keeping repository for the City. It maintains original documents bylaws, contracts and agreements. It maintains results of the decisions and directives passed by Council;
3. The Solicitor function focuses on legal risk management, advises on a broad range of legal issues which arise, drafting bylaws for Council consideration and ensuring the City operates within appropriate authorities; and
The Department also holds responsibility for organizing and executing plans for the election of the City Council and School Board representatives. A referendum or by-election may be required at any point
