Notice of Call for Nominations
The City of Moose Jaw relies on the assistance of its Committees, Boards and Commissions in a broad range of civic matters. Many of these Boards, Committees and Commissions involve citizen representatives. As of August 31, 2016, a number of appointments to the City’s Committees, Boards & Commissions will expire. Vacancies are for one or two year terms. Applications are now being accepted from residents interested in taking an active role on one or more of the following Boards and Committees. Past appointees are also invited to seek reappointment by renewing their applications.
To assist City Council in choosing applicants for appointment, we request that you provide us with information about your background through the attachment of a resume to your application. Application forms can be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office, 2nd Floor, City Hall or on the City’s website: www.moosejaw.ca.
Finally, the City of Moose Jaw wishes to acknowledge and thank all citizens who have served on the City’s various Boards and Committees in the past. Your contribution to our city has been greatly appreciated.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Committee advises Council on matters pertaining to short-term and long-term strategies to reduce racial tension and promote racial harmony. Meetings are held monthly or at the call of the Chair. There are four citizen-at-large vacancies.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
The Commission acts in an advisory capacity to City Council and does research and planning of programs necessary for economic development of the City. Meetings are held at the call of the chair (approx. once a month). There is one youth-at-large (under the age of 25) vacancy and one small business representative vacancy.
ENVIRONMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Committee is responsible for providing advice to City Council on environmental matters and for planning and co-ordinating educational events. Meetings are held bi-monthly or at the call of the Chair. There is one citizen-at-large vacancy.
HERITAGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Committee is responsible for providing advice to City Council on any matter regarding the designation of municipal heritage properties or districts and the development or alteration of properties, once designated. Meetings are held monthly. There are two citizen-at-large vacancies.
MURALS PROJECT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The Committee is responsible for the management, control and supervision of the painting of murals. Meetings are held bimonthly. There are four citizen-at-large vacancies.
PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Committee provides advice to City Council respecting the policies of the Parks & Recreation Department and respecting the operation of the City’s parks and recreational facilities. Meetings are held at the call of the Chair. There are six citizen-at-large vacancies.
SPECIAL NEEDS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Committee advises Council on matters pertaining to accessibility issues, including the special needs transit system, etc. Meetings are monthly or at the call of the Chair. There are six citizen-at-large positions (two of whom are appointed by City Council and four of whom are subsequently appointed by the Committee).
TRANSPORTATION SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Committee provides advice and recommendations to City Council on matters referred to the Committee respecting traffic and parking matters as well as matters related to the City’s transit system. Meetings are held bimonthly or at the call of the Chair. There is one trucking industry vacancy and two citizen-at-large vacancies.
YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Youth Advisory Committee provides advice and recommendations to City Council on issues affecting the youth of our community, including changes to municipal programs to make them youth friendly. Meetings are held at the call of the Chair. The term is for one (1) school year. Two (2) representatives from each high school, Sask. Polytechnic – Palliser Campus, Ecole Ducharme, and up to four (4) representatives (age 18 to 25) not currently attending schools represented on the Committee are required.
All appointments are effective September 1, 2016 unless otherwise stated. Meeting days and times vary depending upon the Board or Committee and are subject to change.
