Citizens of Moose Jaw require a permit from the City of Moose Jaw if you wish to construct, demolish, build an addition or move or renovate buildings or structures on your property. Swimming pools and decks also require permits.

The permit allows City of Moose Jaw staff to review your plans to ensure they comply with all current building codes, bylaws and other applicable regulations.

Permits are NOT required for:

• Fences
• Driveways/Sidewalks
• Painting/Flooring
• Cabinets
• Exchanging windows for new windows of the same size
• Accessory buildings under 107 ft sq. However, these buildings must meet Zoning Bylaws in respect to setbacks

• Building permit application
  
  
• 2 sets of plans
  • These plans must include the following information:
    • Location of work on the lot
    • Floor plan complete with room uses and size of rooms
    • Cross section showing construction of walls, roof, and floor, including insulation
    • Exterior views of the project including height measurements
    • An Engineer’s seal is required for projects containing ICF/PWF/Walk-out basements and steel beams.

All construction and demolition projects require inspections to ensure compliance with National Building Code 2005. These inspections are included in the building permit fee. Inspections are typically completed at the following stages:

• Prior to backfilling
• Prior to basement floor pour
• Prior to dry-walling
• Final
