The Children's Department offers story time for preschoolers and toddlers. Preregistration is required unless otherwise indicated. A summer reading program is offered each summer to enable children to retain their reading skills while taking part in various activities and entertainment provided by the library. Other programs such as author readings, puppet shows, storycrafts and children's performers are offered on an irregular basis. The Adult Department offers a wide variety of programs from craft demonstrations to author readings to informational sessions on health and legal issues. Contact the library for details or to suggest possible program ideas . To register, come down to the library or phone us at 692-2787. The Grade Level indicated for the children and teen programs refers to the grade the child or teen will be going into in Fall 2010. Food may be served at some of our programs; please let staff know ahead of time about any allergies. For Preschoolers Drop-in Preschool Storytime Ages 2 – 5 with parents Meet with other parents and children for stories, songs, rhymes and playtime. Tuesdays, 10:15 – 11:15 am July 6th – August 16th DROP-IN. No Registration Required. For School-Age Children Creek Dipping in the Wakamow Grade 1 – 7, Parents Welcome The Moose Jaw River Watershed Stewards will be joining us again this summer. We’ll be heading down to the river to find out what sort of creatures are living there. Meet us in the parking lot by the speed skating oval in Kiwanis River Park. Make sure you bring water, a hat, sunscreen, bugspray, water shoes or rubber boots, and nets for dipping (if you have them). Wednesday, August 4th, 2:00 – 3:30 pm Registration Required Riparian Jungle Grade 1 – 7, Parents Welcome The folks from the Moose Jaw River Watershed Stewards will take us on a jungle adventure in our own Wakamow valley. What strange creatures will we meet in the Riparian Jungle? Meet us in the parking lot by the speed skating oval in Kiwanis River Park. Be sure to bring water, a hat, sunscreen, bugspray, and binoculars (if you have them). Thursday, August 5th, 2:00 – 3:00 pm Registration Required Masters of Disguise Grade 4 – 7 Survival in the jungle often depends on the ability to blend into surroundings and stay undetected. Both humans and animals use various techniques to avoid becoming a tasty meal. Join us to learn about camouflage in general, as well as about some specific animals that use it and who they are hiding from! If you want, come dressed in your favourite camouflage outfit. Wednesday, August 11th, 2:00 – 3:00 pm Registration Required Slippery as a Snake Grade 1 – 3 Join us as we enter the world of snakes. We will learn fascinating facts about snakes, make our own snakes, and even learn a trick for “charming” snakes. Thursday, August 12th, 2:00 – 3:00 pm Registration Required Survival of the Fittest Grade 4 – 7 The jungle can be a dangerous place for the explorer. Come learn the basics of survival and make some items to help you survive. Monday, August 16th, 2:00 – 3:00 pm Registration Required An Elephant Never Forgets! Grade 1 – 3 Join us to discover the truth about an elephant’s ability to remember things and to test your own memory. We will also hear some elephant stories, rhymes, and songs.
