The City of Moose Jaw will give you up to 2 trees to plant on the City owned boulevard adjacent to your property.  This program is in place for newly created sub division in the City of Moose Jaw. Help us make your new neighbourhood a greener space.

Trees provide many benefits, such as:

  • Reduce cooling and heating costs
  • Filter air pollution
  • Generate oxygen, absorb CO, S), and other harmful pollutants.
  • Increase property values
  • Reduce storm water run-off and the cost of water treatment
  • Provide habitat for birds and other fauna
  • Add living beauty to your neighbourhood.
Please encourage your neighbours to call us for a free tree and contribute to the greening of you street.

Choosing a tree

We have listed a variety of trees from which you can choose.  These are trees that we feel are best suited to our environment and to boulevard plantings.
Little Leaf Linden – Tilia cordata
American Basswood – Tilia americana
Green Ash – Fraxinus pennsylvanica
Manchurian Ash – Fraxinus mandshurica
American Elm – Ulmus americana
Manitoba Maple – Acer negundo
Bur Oak – Quercus macrocarpa
Mayday – Prunus madus
Pissard’s Purple Plum – Prunus ‘pissardii’

These trees can withstand our winters as well as our summers.  This list offers a variety of shapes and color to add to the landscaping of your home and neighbourhood.  We have listed the common and Latin names of the trees so you may research the tree if you wish.

When will my tree arrive?

Trees will be ordered in the spring, for spring delivery.  Therefore get your application in by March 31 of the coming year.  Your trees will be made available some time in May.

By accepting this tree or trees you are accepting responsibility to care for the tree for the first 3 years.  You will be responsible for the planting, watering and general care of the tree.  At the time of pick up you will be given a pamphlet on how to plant and care for your tree).

For more information, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department.
