The Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council offers useful information on how to recycle certain items. Find out more here http://www.saskwastereduction.ca/recycle .
How much will the program cost?
The program will cost $6.75 per month. The charge will appear as a separate line item on your water utility statement. Costs include an annual fee for collection and processing recyclables by the contractor, which is Loraas, as well as administrative costs for the program and a portion for contingency.
What if I want an additional cart?
At this time, no additional carts are available. If additional recycling is required, residents are encouraged to use the communal bins available in two locations in the City: adjacent to the City’s Public Works yard at 150 High St. W, and at the Pla-Mor Palace on Lillooet Street West.
Do I own my cart?
The cart belongs to the property, not the resident, and is identified by serial number. If you move, leave your cart behind and your new property should have a cart there as well.
I live in a multi-unit residential building. Do we each get one cart?
Duplexes and triplexes will get one cart for each water utility account at the property. Four-plexes will be determined on a case-by-case basis by a visit from the City to determine the suitability of the property for individual carts. Condos and apartment buildings will not receive carts. Note that all residents are entitled to use the bulk recycling bins available either behind the Pla-More Palace on South Hill or adjacent to the City Yards complex at 1050 High Street.
What is included with my cart?
Upon delivery, each cart should have included a brochure explaining how the program works, and what can and cannot be recycled. A calendar with your recycling pickup schedule should have also been included.
I didn’t receive a brochure or calendar with my cart. What do I do?
Contact us and we will get you the information, potentially through the contractor Loraas. Our phone number is 306-694-4448.
Where will my recycling pickup take place?
Recycling pickup will occur at the same location where your garbage is picked up, unless you receive other information from the contractor, Loraas, indicating otherwise.
Can I leave my cart out during the week?
No, residents should safely store their carts between pickup dates.
How often is pickup?
Recycling pickup occurs every other week. A calendar for your pickup should have been delivered with your cart. It is also available at www.moosejaw.ca/recycling at the bottom of the page.
The lid on my cart won’t close. What should I do?
Upon delivery, the plastic on some lids won’t immediately conform to the cart due to the delivery process. Just leave them out in the sun for a couple of hours, and they should then close normally.
Does the $6.75/month include PST and GST?
Municipal recycling is exempt from PST and GST charges.
I don’t want to participate. What can I do?
All water utility accounts will be paying for the recycling program based on a decision made by City Council in early 2015. By having all residents participate, the cost is substantially lower. Recycling reduces household waste, defers waste from the landfill and helps the environment. However, while residents receive a cart, there is no requirement to actively recycle.
